Getting started

What is Ovaro?

Ovaro is voice-first invoicing, expenses, mileage and Making Tax Digital software for UK sole traders and self-employed people. You speak the job; Ovaro turns it into an invoice or estimate, sends a payment link, and keeps the digital record HMRC needs.

Who is Ovaro for?

UK sole traders, freelancers and self-employed tradespeople — electricians, plumbers, cleaners, handymen, gardeners, decorators, mobile mechanics and anyone who quotes jobs and gets paid by customers directly.

Do I need an accountant to use Ovaro?

No. Ovaro is designed for self-employed people who do their own books. But if you do have an accountant, you can export a clean CSV at any point so they can file your Self Assessment without rebuilding your year.

What can I try before paying?

Your first invoice journey is free end-to-end: create it, send it and connect Stripe. After that, plans start at £3.99/mo.

Voice & creating documents

How does voice invoicing work?

Tap the mic, say something like 'invoice John Smith 240 pounds for bathroom tap fitted today'. Ovaro parses the customer, amount, line items and due date, shows you a preview, and you tap send.

Do I have to use voice?

No. Every screen also works by typing. Voice is the fastest way, but the keyboard form is always there.

What languages does voice support?

Currently UK English. We're testing other regional accents continuously.

Can I edit before sending?

Yes. Voice produces a draft preview. You can edit any field — customer, line items, amounts, VAT, due date — before sending or saving.

Getting paid

How do customers pay me?

Every invoice includes a secure payment link powered by Stripe. Customers can pay by card or Apple Pay / Google Pay on their phone — no app or account needed.

What are the payment fees?

Standard UK Stripe rates apply (1.5% + 20p for UK cards at the time of writing). Ovaro doesn't add any markup on top.

When do I get the money?

Payouts hit your bank account on the standard Stripe schedule — typically 2–3 working days after the customer pays.

Making Tax Digital & HMRC

Is Ovaro MTD-ready?

Yes. Ovaro keeps digital records by default, tags expenses to HMRC categories, and produces quarterly summaries ready for MTD for Income Tax (starting April 2026). See the dedicated /making-tax-digital page for full details.

Does Ovaro handle VAT?

Yes. We track VAT at 0%, 5% and 20% on both invoices and expenses, and produce VAT-period summaries you or your accountant can file.

Does Ovaro file my tax return for me?

No — you stay in control of submissions to HMRC. Ovaro makes the underlying data correct, categorised and ready, so filing (by you or your accountant) takes minutes instead of weeks.

What about mileage?

Log business trips manually or from your phone. HMRC's approved mileage rates (45p / 25p) are baked in, so your mileage claim is always correct.

Pricing & account

How much does Ovaro cost?

Your first invoice journey is free end-to-end. After that, Basic is £3.99/mo and Premium is £6.99/mo. Full breakdown on the /pricing page.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. No contracts, no notice period. Cancel from your account and you stop being billed at the end of the current period.

Do you offer refunds?

If something isn't right within 14 days of a paid charge, email support@ovaro.io and we'll refund the most recent month.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, hosted in the EU/UK, and you own everything — export to CSV at any time.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Your account stays accessible for 30 days after cancellation so you can export. After that the data is permanently deleted.

Apps & platforms

Is there a mobile app?

Yes — Ovaro works on iOS, Android and the web. Voice works best on mobile because you're usually on a job site.

Does it work offline?

You can draft invoices and capture receipts offline; they sync automatically when you're back online.

Can I import data from QuickBooks / Xero / FreeAgent?

Yes — we support CSV import for customers and historic invoices, and direct imports for the most common formats. Contact support and we'll help you migrate.

Banking

What is Banking?

Banking in Ovaro is a secure UK system that allows approved financial applications to access banking information with your permission. Ovaro uses it to import transactions and help match invoice payments — read-only, with bank-level encryption.

Is Ovaro a bank?

No. Ovaro is a financial management and invoicing platform for freelancers and small businesses. We are not a bank, lender or accounting firm.

Can Ovaro move money from my bank account?

No. Ovaro only uses read-only banking access. Ovaro cannot send payments, transfer funds or withdraw money.

Who powers Ovaro's bank connections?

Bank connections are powered by Plaid, an FCA-authorised banking provider regulated in the UK.

Does Ovaro store my banking password?

No. Your online banking credentials are never shared with Ovaro. Authentication happens securely through your bank or banking provider.

Why do I need to reconnect my bank every 90 days?

UK banking regulations require banking permissions to be reconfirmed periodically to keep your data secure. Ovaro will let you know when it's time to renew.

What can Ovaro do with my bank data?

Ovaro can import transactions, help match payments to invoices, help create expenses and improve bookkeeping workflows. We don't sell or share your banking data.

Can I disconnect my bank account?

Yes. You can disconnect at any time from your Ovaro settings — syncing stops immediately. You can also revoke access through your bank or banking permissions dashboard.

Which banks are supported?

Supported banks depend on availability through Plaid and banking integrations. Most major UK high-street and challenger banks are supported.
